In 2003 Jason Lees Design was founded with a clear mission in mind; to create timeless modern furniture that is as functional and livable as it is beautiful. Each piece is handcrafted and built to last in our Northern California workshop using the highest quality materials.
We build character and individuality into our designs by combining the warmth of wood with interesting materials and understated details. With its timeless quality, our furniture is comfortable in a variety of settings from the modern to the eclectic to the more traditional.
Our clients are local, national and international, and our projects have included residences, commercial spaces, institutions and hotels. Notably, we custom designed and handcrafted 150 pieces of furniture for 28 guest rooms and public spaces, including tables, desks, benches, consoles, nightstands, media cabinets, armoires and headboards for The Inn Above Tide, a high-end boutique hotel in Sausalito, California.
Jason Lees Design has been featured in numerous publications including, Interior Design Magazine, The World of Interiors, Anthology Magazine, Metropolitan Home, The San Francisco Chronicle Magazine and San Francisco Magazine.
Jason Lees was born in England. His family emigrated to San Diego, California, when he was a young child and he watched his father build his contracting business from scratch. Jason worked summers in the family business and at an early age developed an interest in design, decoration and construction.
After graduating from the University of California at Santa Barbara, Jason moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. He worked in graphic design but started to gravitate towards the tactile and three-dimensional quality of furniture and interior design. He took several woodworking classes and learned how to build furniture. Soon after he was designing and building custom furniture pieces for clients in his spare time.
Jason decided to further his design education and studied Interior Architecture and Design at the University of California, Berkeley. He landed a job as an interior and furniture designer with a firm specializing in high-end hotels and residences. It was during this time that Jason worked on the international award winning lobby and suites of the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco.
In 2003 Jason opened his own furniture showroom in a charming 1920’s storefront in the Glenview district of Oakland.
